It is the small performance space
which adjoins the DSO’s primary venue

and part of the DSO’s efforts to
broaden its appeal beyond its core
classical, pops and jazz audiences.
The initiative also represents an attempt
to fulfill the unrealized potential
of the expansion of historic Orchestra Hall
opened in 2003 and became informally known as

– the Max –

They include

contemporary classical music,
chamber music,
world music,
post-jazz concert “hangs,”
salsa dances,
yoga with musical acompaniment
artist-curated events
artistic subcultures in metro Detroit.

The Cube is a flexible, multipurpose venue,
offering either cabaret-style seating with tables or tiered theater seats.
The acoustics are good enough for both acoustic and amplified styles.
The DSO also uses the space for receptions.
Next door to the Cube is the smaller
Robert A. and Maggie Allesee Rehearsal Hall,
which anchors the DSO’s Saturday morning education programs
and has become the home for the
Detroit Public Theatre.
